Product Description

Commercial-grade, IP66 Waterproof LED light fixture assembled with a custom spectrum developed specifically to highlight all of the colors a freshwater show tank.  By using a mix of the world's most efficient LEDs, these fixtures deliver incredible PAR levels (micromoles/m2/s) into your tank.  Hence, this spectrum is extremely capable of growing the most demanding freshwater plants.  The slim fixture design (1" tall / 2" wide) will improve the appearance of any aquarium.  Available in 4 fixture lengths and 5 beam angles to work with all aquariums.  For those seeking less pink in the light spectrum, this is a great alternative to the Freshwater Planted Spectrum. See the product comparison video link under the image thumbnails (lower left).

Build My LED - Freshwater Show Tank (02:18)
http://www.buildmyled.com Quick video showing the color of our Freshwater Show Tank spectrum on a planted tank. The tank is a 65 gallon tub, and we used two 36" fixtures to light the tank. The fixture over the back of the tank was configured with the 90 degree beam angle, and the fixture over the middle of the tank was configured with the 75 degree beam angle. The plants are loving the increased light levels! Thanks to Bruce and the team at AquaTek Tropical Fish for letting us film their beautiful tank. http://www.buildmyled.com/freshwater-show-tank

  1. ALMOST a perfect light! (Should be 4.5 Stars!)

Posted by Bryce Corbin on Apr 26th 2013

The output of this fixture is outstanding! After turning this on, I had to fight the urge to throw the dual-T8 fixture it replaced in the garbage. The plants almost don't look "real". Even olive-brown Cryptocorynes look amazing under it. I have noticed new growth on previously substrate-bound plants within days of installing it.

The only flaw I see is the extruded aluminum body/heatsink needs to extend down just a bit more (maybe a milimeter) to eliminate the very thin bright line visible from the side.

  2. I bought 2

I am starting up a 75 gallon freshwater plant tank. It is currently in its dry start phase. I purchased two of the 48" freshwater show lights and have been happy with the results so far. I may post some pictures of my setup on the forums for people to see if they are interested.

The lights themselves are very light weight and easy to mount. The power supply is also mountable if you want to get it out of the way. I plan on hooking them up to a timer and see how things work.

  3. Finally found great lights!

Posted by Bryson McCloughen on Feb 14th 2013

I ordered 2 36 in lights for my 125 gallon Angelfish tank. This is replacing T-5 lights, which replaced some lesser quality LED lights that weren't letting the plants grow. I'm amazed by the immediate colors that were apparent in the plants and fish in the tank. It was a huge improvement and has me very glad I found this website!

Nick has been outstanding with his customer service. I neglected to order the dimmer switch splitter so he called me to make sure that was a mistake. I also inadvertently selected the 30 deg instead of 90 deg lenses (shouldn't be placing orders at 1am). He caught that, checked with me and ensured that the lights would be correct for what I actually wanted. I will certainly recommend them in the future and will try and talk my local store into carrying the BuildmyLED products!

  4. Freshwater Show Tank Lights

Posted by Davena A. Stowers on Dec 7th 2012

From ordering to installation I am thrilled with this product.

Being a freshwater/saltwater/reef hobbyist for more than 30 years I have seen alot of lighting systems come and go. Usually you had to balance heat generation, light output and energy costs.
My new lights have addressed all these issues.

The light output is tremendous! Being a bit old school with the T5 lights on the reefs I expected a big light- nope these are only 2 inches wide and the 48 inch ones weigh about 1.5 pounds. I ordered two of the 48 inch Freshwater show lights to go over the 150 gallon planted Discus tank. They are hung about 6 inches above with the kits.
Gives such a streamlined look and it so easy to access the tank now with the open top. Great look as this tank is on display in our computer store. One thing I noticed was the lessening of evaporation since the lights weren't cooking the tank like the T5 did. Chuckled when I saw my plants pearl like crazy within an hour of installing these lights.

Do I like this product? I just spoke to Nick (Co-Owner of BuildMyLed.com) about ordering more for my bow-front tank!
